Unit 3: Periodic Table + Compounds

Unit 3 Objectives:

3.1 Understand how to “read” the periodic table
3.2 Explain the basic organization of the periodic table
3.3 Explain trends (atomic radius & electronegativity) on periodic table
3.3: Explain why atoms bond
3.4: Define mnetallic bond, and explain what types of atoms form metallic bonds.
3.5: Define ionic bond, and explain what types of atoms form ionic bonds.
3.6: Define covalent bond and explain what types of atoms form covalent bonds.
3.7: Describe the characteristics of different compounds (metallic, ionic, covalent)
3.8: Use Lewis Dot Diagrams to diagram how electrons behave in atoms that form different bonds.
3.9 Correctly write the molecular formula for different types of molecules
3.10  Use nomenclature rules to properly name different compounds and molecules
