Unit 2: Motion (Kinematics)

Unit 2 Objectives:

Objective 2.1 Describe how Aristotle described motion
Objective 2.2 Describe Galileo’s contribution to the science of motion
Objective 2.3 Explain Newton’s First Law of Motion
Objective 2.4 Define and explain inertia
Objective 2.5 Differentiate between a scalar and a vector. Use both to describe forces and motion of objects.
Objective 2.6 I can define displacement and explain how to calculate it
Objective 2.7 I can demonstrate proper graphing techniques
Objective 2.8 I can define the following: speed, velocity, acceleration. I know what units are appropriate for each.
Objective 2.9 Define velocity, and know how to calculate velocity
Objective 2.10 Differentiate between average velocity & instantaneous velocity
Objective 2.11 Define acceleration, and know how to calculate acceleration
Objective 2.12 Describe motion using the following three ways: 1) motion maps, 2) graphs, 3) mathematical equations
Objective 2.13 Interpret a motion-time graph to describe an object’s motion and determine its velocity
Objective 2.14 Interpret a velocity-time graph to describe an object’s motion and determine its acceleratio
