Unit 3: Objectives

Objective 3.1: Describe the roles these scientists had in cell discovery: Hooke, Leeuwenhoek, Schleiden, Schwann, Virchow
Objective 3.2: Explain the main points of the Cell Theory
Objective 3.3: Compare prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells
Objective 3.4: Draw, label, and describe the functions of essential structures within eukaryotic cells
Objective 3.5: Identify 3 differences between plant & animal cells
Objective 3.6: Be able to label and describe the functions for all parts of the endomembrane system.
Objective 3.7: Describe the structure of the cell membrane & properties of phospholipids that allow for semipermeability.
Objective 3.8: Explain how passive transport works & differentiate between different types of passive transport
Objective 3.9: Define osmosis
Objective 3.10: Define: solute, solvent, solution, semi-permeable, impermeable, permeable

Objective 3.11: Describe what happens to a cell in the following solutions: hypotonic, hypertonic, isotonic, AND WHY
Objective 3.12: Explain what active transport is, and how it works.
Objective 3.13: Describe different modes of active transport, including pumps, endocytosis, and exocytosis
Objective 3.14: Explain how single-celled organisms maintain homeostasis
Objective 3.15: Provide examples of specialized cells and describe how their structure defines function
Objective 3.16: Describe how cells of a multicellular organism work together to maintain homeostasis
